3 Colours You Should Never Paint Your Bedroom

A true luxury bedroom should be many things: spacious, tranquil, opulent. Unfortunately, there’s almost nothing that ruins this sentiment faster than a retreat painted a shade that’s outdated or simply doesn’t convey these elements. If you’re staging or refreshing a bedroom in preparation for a home sale, make sure you never opt for these shades:
Orange
Walking into a room with orange walls, even in a soft shade, can seem overwhelming. Though it can seem like a good idea to add a pop of colour to ward off those long, Canadian winters, this is a colour of energy and playfulness, so it’s best used as an accessory colour in other spaces, and not in a location where you go to relax and retreat from the day.
Red
Red may be good luck in some cultures, but much like orange, it’s an energetic shade that’s meant to invoke certain moods not conducive to resting. It also has the effect of making a room look like the walls are closing in, no matter how expansive your bedroom is. So it’s definitely not a shade you want to be using when you’re trying to convey spaciousness and airiness.
Apple Green
As a general rule, bright colours shouldn’t be a primary element in a bedroom. A subtle pop of colour can add some personality, but avoid painting your walls in anything bright or distracting, like apple green. In lighter or more muted shades, green can be very relaxing, but a vivid shade like this is definitely not the look of luxury.
In general, it’s best to stick to neutral or pastel elements when painting or staging a bedroom. Save the bright colours for subtle accents or for other parts of the home where restfulness isn’t such a priority.
